.Electric ScootersBuying a mobility vehicle can be as difficult as buying a car and it is essential that you use a suitably qualified and experienced dealer who is able to assess your physical and environmental needs and recommend a suitable type for you.
By choosing to make your purchase from Cumbria Mobility you will be assured of the services of fully trained staff and back-up workshop facilities, in order to keep your vehicle in good and safe working condition. At Cumbria Mobility all our mobility assessors have received extensive product and disability awareness training and have received personal accreditation. Some of the considerations to take into account in the eventual choice are: · Will the scooter/wheelchair be used on pavements only or will you need to travel on roads, rough terrain, etc. · Will the vehicle be used indoors, outdoors or both. · Do you need to be able to dismantle it for transportation by car. · Is the vehicle going to suit your needs for at least a few years. · Where will you store and charge up your vehicle. · Can you get in and out of the vehicle safely. · Do you feel comfortable and safe in it. · How far do you need to travel, has it sufficient range. At Cumbria Mobility we will make a detailed assessment of your physical and environmental needs including a home visit, to ensure the choice you eventually decide on is appropriate to you. We often get asked by customers looking at scooters whether they should go for a 3 wheel or a 4 wheel scooter. Both types have their advantages and disadvantages. The 3 wheel models offer better manoeuvrability especially in tight situations such as indoors or when shopping and the physical effort to steer can also be less as there is only one front wheel to turn. They can also be a little easier to dismantle and stow for transportation by car . The 4 wheel models have greater ultimate stability, - we would certainly recommend them over 3 wheel models for any road use or rough terrain such as grass. The 4 wheel models can be a little heavier to steer and the turning circle not as good, but they are available in larger more powerful versions for those customers needing greater range or hill climbing capability. Battery charging is usually carried out at the end of the day using a standard 13 amp socket and costs only a few pence. This is why making the correct choice is so important.and why we offer our home visit service to ensure that your purchase is tailored to your needs. No licence is required to operate these vehicles and insurance is not compulsory, although we strongly recommend you to take out cover. It is a modest cost and well worthwhile - we can supply the necessary proposal forms. Most of the new mobility vehicles come with a one year warranty against faulty workmanship. However, you may wish to take out an extended warranty for an additional 1 or 2 years to give you peace of mind - again we can supply further information.
